The Best Hotels in Messina Sicily

My favourite hotels in Messina, Sicily

Finding hotels in Messina was actually one of the trickier parts of planning my Sicily trip. Messina was one of my first stops, and I remember the car ride up well. You can read more about that in my Messina travel guide. What I loved about Messina was that it felt a little quieter than places like Palermo and Catania. But finding the right hotel took some effort.

How we select the best hotels in Messina

We got a lot of help from family. We have family who live in Calabria, just over the Strait of Messina. They have been to Sicily many times and had great recommendations on Messina hotels and spots around the island. We also looked at hotels in Messina, Sicily that were close to iconic things like the Duomo, the and the Fontana di Orione. If you are only there for a couple of days, being close to everything really matters.

We also looked at guest reviews, focusing on service and amenities. We favoured hotels with architectural heritage, like old villas or palaces that had been modernised. Rooftop terraces and views over Messina and the ocean were a big bonus too.

Luxury hotels in Messina

So I'll start off with luxury hotels in Messina. What I found about the luxury hotels in messina italy is that many have really big beds or spacious rooms. I also saw a lot of marble bathrooms. Some had high-end technology and the service was usually fantastic.

The Royal Palace Hotel

The Royal Palace Hotel. This is a 4 star hotel in Messina and a very convenient place to stay. It is right next to the shopping area within Messina. They have parking, which was great as I had my car. They are also very close to the train station if you are travelling around Sicily by train like some of my friends.

From the pictures the rooms are fairly modern but look at the size of that bed. That is something I loved. That was the deluxe double room. It is a very clean hotel in Messina and a great place to stay. They also have triple rooms and family rooms that can fit up to 5 people, so great for families too.

Re Vittorio Deluxe

This is probably the best hotel in Messina, Sicily, for luxury. It is a bit more modern than so many others, and you can really see that in the pictures.

They have a wide range of rooms to choose from. The bedding is really premium and they have free toiletries if you leave yours at home. They also have rainfall showers, which I really like myself.

The staff are brilliant too. They can organise bike rentals to get around the city, the front desk is open 24 hours, and they can even help with things to do in Messina.

Boutique hotels in Messina Italy

I love luxury hotels, but I also really love boutique hotels. They are usually a little smaller with fewer rooms, and they usually have really fantastic service. The staff usually go the extra mile and they can be a little more chic.

Hotel CineApollo

One of the best boutique hotels in Messina is the Hotel CineApollo. If you are looking for something different, this is the hotel for you.

What is different is that all the rooms are slightly different with their own characters.

Some rooms are inspired by The Godfather, others by 50 Shades of Grey. Just different, but the rooms are really nice inside. Sometimes you will see a bit of marble. There is air conditioning, and it is just a cool place to be.

It is also well located near the Messina Port, so you can walk there. It is also quite close to all the restaurants in Messina and the Fontana D'Orion.

Vmaison Hotel

This is a really nice 4 star hotel in Messina, inside an old 19th century building with a lot of history that has been renovated. They have a rooftop terrace with a really nice view over Messina.

They also have a restaurant and bar so you can enjoy aperitivo time or just go for dinner if you do not feel like going out. I love the rooms.

From the pictures on the right they are really funky and a little bit different. That was the suite but the deluxe room is even more eclectic. You can choose to have singles or doubles in there.

Going back to the terrace, it is really nice at night with fairy lights and cocktails. Really nice.

Jolly Charme Suite

One of my absolute favourites out of all the hotels in Messina is the Jolly Charm Suite. You can see why from the pictures. It is right on the ocean. Grab yourself a room looking that way.

The building dates from the 900s and was designed in 1929. Rooms are either deluxe or junior so you are only getting premium rooms at this Messina hotel.

It is very tech-forward with home automation devices, a 42 inch TV, and air conditioning. From the hotel you can also see the Stele della Madonna della Lettera. That is probably as close as you are going to get to it because a military base stops you from walking around, we tried.

The Teatro Vittorio Emanuele is also right next door so you might be able to grab a show and be right next door to it.

The best hotels in Messina for families

Sometimes you do not think about this but there are things we forget when travelling with family. Things like babysitting services, pools, spacious rooms, and on-site restaurants. When I was looking at these hotels, I was looking for amenities like pools, spacious layouts, babysitting services, and maybe an on-site restaurant. Here are some of the best hotels in Messina, Sicily, for families.

Villa Pulejo

Villa Pulejo is ranked as one of the best hotels in Messina, and it is a luxury resort. It originally comes from a historic Sicilian home from the 1880s.

For families it has pretty much everything. It has a pool, tennis courts, a garden, an outdoor jacuzzi, parking if you bring your car, a spa, a cocktail bar, and a restaurant if you do not feel like going out.

The rooms at Villa Pulejo have also been designed with families in mind. There are options with sea views and options with garden views. All rooms are soundproofed, which is a big plus.

The beds are super comfortable with lots and lots of pillows. You can also ask for an extra bed or a cot in the bedrooms but it does cost extra.

Residence dei Margi

This is a 4-star hotel in Messina with self-catering apartments, which makes it great for families. You can pick a one, two, or even three-bedroom option.

From the picture, you can see they have a huge pool, which is lovely for families. They also have other amenities like a playground, a soccer pitch, and even an amphitheatre.

It is a little bit further away from the main town in Messina but there are still plenty of restaurants around. The beaches are also just down the road if you want to take the kids.

Best hotels in Messina Sicily on a budget

Sometimes you do not want to splurge on an expensive hotel, and you might be looking for something a little better for the pocket. When I was looking at these hotels in Messina for value, I was looking for good value, maybe free breakfast, and all the basic amenities you might need. I will try to note the free breakfast options as I go through.

Villa Morgana Resort & Spa

This is a 4 star hotel in Messina, Italy, and really good value. It is near the Strait of Messina and the Ganzirri lagoons. Because you are a little bit further away from the city you get a more premium hotel in Messina for your money.

The views are really nice, and from the pictures, the pool looks fantastic. The one thing that really stands out to me is how quiet it is around there.

You will need a car or taxi to get to nearby restaurants but they do have their own. They actually have two restaurants. On top of that they have an infinity pool, a wellness centre, and even a gym.

I also really like the decor inside. Villa Morgana Resort and Spa was renovated in the 1970s, and it was originally a villa.

The rooms are soundproofed and look really nice inside. They offer free parking if you drive, and for families, you can get cribs; you just have to request that when booking.

Villa Morgana Resort Pool in Messina

messina 41 hotel

I would say this is the best hotel in Messina, Sicily, for value. It is in the town, very close to the Duomo I mentioned earlier and also the Fountain of Neptune.

There are lots and lots of rooms to choose from including basic, quadruple, and even superior rooms. They have everything you need. Air conditioning for summer and for winter.

What I like is the bathrooms have a chromatic blue light shower, which is a really nice touch. The more expensive rooms also have a sauna and a Turkish bath.

A little bit different but really really good value for money.
