Best Restaurants in Agrigento Sicily

What I love about Agrigento is that it sits on the south coast of Sicily and is also surrounded by a lot of mountains. It is a small town, and that means there are a lot of traditional Italian restaurants in Agrigento. Apart from that, you can also find a number of Michelin restaurants in Agrigento, despite it being a small town. So I will be taking you through my guide to the best restaurants in Agrigento.

How we select the best restaurants in Agrigento

First of all, we prioritise those that have a rich heritage, and also those that use locally sourced ingredients. We have family in Sicily, and we can also speak the language, meaning we can speak to locals about their recommendations, including those off the main strip

We look for outstanding service, authentic Sicilian flavours, and a nice ambiance. We also like those restaurants in agrigento that might be in historic buildings or may have views of the Valley of the Temples, which you can read more about in my Agrigento travel guide. We also look at restaurants that might have a modern twist on a traditional Sicilian dish.

Michelin nominated restaurants in Agrigento

Now, last time I checked, there were 3 restaurants and Michelin has been around since 1936, with their ratings going from 0 to 3. A one Michelin star restaurant in Agrigento means it is a very good one. Two stars means it is worth a detour, and three stars is usually one of the best restaurants in Agrigento and worth a special journey. It does take a couple of hours from the nearest airports.

Despite Agrigento being a small town that not many tourists visit, I would still advise booking well ahead, especially for Michelin restaurants in agrigento. So I will start off with my first one.

Osteria Expanificio

Osteria Expanificio. This is a traditional Sicilian restaurant that is in the natural post-war bakery, right next to the Pirandello Theatre. It has been nominated as a bib gourmand, and what that means by Michelin is that it is excellent cooking at a fair price. So definitely worth going to.

Some of the dishes include the busiate al pesto siciliano, but they have really nice seafood dishes such as the sea urchin pasta. Not for everyone, but this is delicious. You can either choose to sit inside or outside, and I think outside is really nice, especially on a summer's day.

Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

See the Osteria Expanificio Menu.

Address: Piazza Giuseppe Sinatra, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Il Re di Girgenti

Il Re di Girgenti. This is one of the best restaurants in Agrigento, Sicily, with a view of the Valley of the Temples. This restaurant has a lot of Sicilian dishes and they also have a large variety of wines. The venue itself has a slight Arabian feel to it and you can either sit inside or on the terrace.

I would probably recommend the terrace to get the views if you can. The menu focuses on fish and shellfish. Being near the Valley of the Temples also means you are close to some of the 5 star and 4 star hotels in Agrigento.

Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

See the Il Re di Girgenti Menu.

Address: Via Panoramica Valle dei Templi, 51, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Il Molo

Il Molo is right on the seafront of San Leone and it is a perfect place to go for lunch because you have the view of the beach. It is also very nice during the summer at nighttime and you can sit on the terrace. It has a really nice ambiance to it, the service is great, and they have a lot of seafood dishes like the calamari, the risottos, the crawfish, and lobster pasta.

A really nice place if you are visiting the beach that day in Agrigento. Open 6 days a week for lunch and dinner (closed Wednesday).

Address: Lungomare Falcone - Borsellino, 1, 92100 San Leone AG, Italy

Best restaurants in Agrigento for fine dining

Apart from the Michelin restaurants, there are not too many more fine dining restaurants in agrigento, but here are the ones that I found.

Ristorante La Scala

Ristorante La Scala. This is actually a restaurant that is in an ancient residence from the 1800s. It is run by Chef Vincenzo, and he has been in many other venues such as Hotel Timeo, which is in Taormina, which you can read more about in my hotels in Taormina guide. Chef Vincenzo eventually opened up his own Sicilian restaurant in Agrigento in 2015.

He has a lot of love for his food and tries to pick only natural ingredients from Sicily, bringing those flavours together along with the colours of Italy into his dishes. This was actually a recommendation from a local.

What I did was reserve one of the tables on the balcony and it was perfect. You could see out to the town of Agrigento, so it was a really nice view. Try and book that if you can. Really good Sicilian food. I tried at the end a fried ravioli with ricotta and pistachio. Hopefully they still have that on the menu. This is probably one of the best restaurants in Agrigento for fine dining on my trip.

Open 6 days a week (closed Thursday).

See the Ristorante La Scala Menu.

Address: Via Atenea, 72, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Kalos

Kalos is a restaurant that is inspired by Sicilian tradition and is run by Chef Antonio Cipolla. Some of the highlights that we had were the spaghetti with red Mazara prawns and pistachio.

Again, they also have a balcony, so I would try and get a reservation, especially in the summer, on the balcony where you will be able to see the church outside. It is a really lovely spot and pretty quiet, so you can really enjoy it. Great to go as a family or for a special evening.

Open for lunch and dinner 6 days a week and closed on Monday.

Check out the Kalos menu.

Address: Salita Filino, 1, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

La Terrazza degli Dei

La Terrazza degli Dei. This is one of the best restaurants in agrigento with a view as well. It looks over the Temple of Concordia and you get some really fantastic views. It looks a little bit traditional inside but the service and the food are fantastic.

It is run by Chef Salvatore Avenia, who has worked in many venues. His dishes, he says, are made to recount the history of Sicily. Some of the great items at this restaurant in agrigento are the beef fillet and the risotto with shrimp.

Open 7 days a week for both lunch and dinner.

See the La Terrazza degli Dei Menu.

Address: Via Passeggiata Archeologica, 33, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Risotto and red wine on a plate at one of the best restaurants in Agrigento

Traditional restaurants in Agrigento

Nothing beats a traditional restaurant and there are quite a few in Agrigento because it is a smaller town, so you get a lot of family-run restaurants in Agrigento. I actually love this. It is also great on the wallet.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the best traditional restaurants in agrigento and it is run by Chef Mareme Cisse. She specifically offers an experience between Sicily and Africa. So if you are looking for something a little bit different and traditional, this is the place you want to go.

She unites the two cultures with tradition and modernity. The specialty, last time I checked, was the couscous with Sicilian semolina that has been handmade and steamed. It is a traditional Sicilian dish from the Trapani area in the west.

Open 6 days a week and closed on Monday.

See the Ginger Menu.

Address: Via Empedocle, 21, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Civicododici

Civicododici is a family run restaurant right in the centre of town. Here you are going to get your classic traditional seafood dishes. What I love about it is the character. It has outdoor tables up the stairs of an alley. I absolutely love that, and that is your classic traditional Italian restaurant in agrigento.

Some of the favourite dishes there are the mussels, the caponata, and all the different pasta dishes. Really good value and one of my favourite best restaurants in Agrigento.

Open 6 days a week for lunch and dinner. Closed on Sunday.

Address: Via Vullo, 12, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Ruga Reali

Ruga Reali. What I love about this restaurant in Agrigento is that it is set in a small square with an outdoor terrace. It really gives you that at-home family vibe. Inside, you have the exposed brick, so it is a very traditional Italian restaurant in Agrigento.

They are known for their seafood and also a variety of pasta dishes. Check out their fresh fish of the day, which is usually always good from speaking to some of the locals, and they have an amazing list of wines to pair with it. My favourite item when I went there was sea bass in pistachios. I love pistachio dishes and Sicily does it very well.

Open 6 days a week for lunch and dinner (closed on Tuesday).

Address: Cortile Scribani, 8, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Dessert places in Agrigento

What I love about Agrigento is that it is a little bit of a quieter town, so it is nice to really walk around and take in that Sicilian atmosphere. I like to go for dessert after my dinners. Here are my favourite places in Agrigento for dessert.

Le Cuspidi

Le Cuspidi is a family run pastry shop that produces your traditional Sicilian confectionery. It has been around since 1960 and gone through 5 generations. I absolutely love that. Some of the favourites that I have had are the cannoli, the panettone, which you do not always find, and also the pistachio gelato. Make sure to check out Le Cuspidi.

Open from 7.30 am - 12 am 6 days a week (closed on Tuesday)

Address: Piazza Cavour, 19, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Gelateria Ragno d'oro

Gelateria Ragno d'oro is your go to place in town for gelato. It is a very busy place in summer and has tables inside and outside the shop so you can sit down, which I like. What it is known for is the brioche, the pistachio ice cream of course, and also the Nutella ice cream. A great place to take the kids.

Open 6 days a week and closed on Monday.

Address: Via Nettuno, 25, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy

Caffe Concordia Famiglia Saito

This dessert spot in Agrigento has been around since 1948. It is set in a really beautiful square and you can go there for a coffee and then pair it with some traditional Sicilian desserts. They have cannoli, granita, pastries, and lots more. You cannot go wrong with this pastry shop.

Open 6 days a week (closed on Monday).

Address: Piazza Luigi Pirandello, 36/37, 92100 Agrigento AG, Italy
