Where to stay in Agrigento

Welcome to our guide about where to stay in Agrigento. If you are heading to this part of Sicily, this is one of the most important decisions you will make for your trip.

Agrigento is a very historical city with some amazing culture and landscapes. It sits down on the south coast of Italy and is full of Greek temples, mediaeval streets, and views of the Mediterranean. Now, it is quite a large city, so working out where to stay in Agrigento is a really important part of planning your visit.

How we choose where to stay in Agrigento

When we are choosing areas to stay in Agrigento, our focus is usually on properties that are within close proximity to the UNESCO Valley of the Temples. We look at reviews and prioritise those based on their service, the rooms, and the amenities.

We also favour areas that have rich historical heritage but are also modern. Think converted historical buildings, or contemporary ones that have local architectural influences. Properties that have views of the ancient ruins or a picturesque Mediterranean landscape are really highly sought after too. Those that are by coastal areas are just incredible and tend to book up fast, so keep that in mind when you are looking at Agrigento hotels.

Oceanside Accommodation in Agrigento

If you are looking for a more relaxed type of holiday, then getting accommodation right next to the beach is where you want to go. Some options are right on the beach and may have their own private beach area, while others are just a short stroll away. Where to stay in Agrigento by the ocean really does come down to budget and what kind of vibe you are after. Here are some of our favourites.

Scala Dei Turchi

The Scala Dei Turchi. This is a four star beachfront on the Agrigento coast, just 4 minutes away from the famous Scala dei Turchi. All the rooms come with air con, the place has free parking which is genuinely hard to find, and most of the rooms have a view of the ocean.

If you do not want to head out, they also have a restaurant and a pool. Really solid choice for anyone wondering where to stay in Agrigento and wanting that oceanside feel, and it is close to some of the best beaches in Sicily.

Hotel Villa Romana

Hotel Villa Romana. This is a 4 star newly built hotel right on the beach. You can see the ocean from the terrace, and most of the rooms either have a terrace or a balcony overlooking the water. They have private parking for your car.

They also have their own private beach area, which is really important because it means you do not have to pay for sun lounges or umbrellas separately.

Apart from that, if you do not feel like heading to the beach, they have their own outdoor pool, a beach restaurant, and a pool bar. Really well set up.

Dioscuri Bay Palace Hotel

Dioscuri Bay Palace Hotel. This one is in the town of San Leone in Agrigento, and if you are into swimming they have a semi Olympic swimming pool, which is brilliant.

They also have an outdoor solarium with sun lounges and umbrellas. For families, they have cribs available, and they do have secure parking if you need it.

The staff are multilingual and can help you book places nearby, which is really handy. It is very close to the best restaurants in Agrigento and has its own restaurant on site too.

Where to stay in Agrigento Centre

If you want to be in the thick of it, the centre is a great call. You can wake up, grab breakfast, and be just about 10 minutes from historical sites. The only thing I would be cautious of is the ZTL area if you are bringing your own car, so just be aware of that before you drive in (read more about ZTL in my Agrigento travel guide. But overall the centre is a really practical and atmospheric place to base yourself, and it gives you easy access to things to do in Agrigento.

Hotel Exclusive

Hotel Exclusive. This is a 4 star hotel close to the Agrigento train station and bus stops. The views from this place are incredible, out over the ocean, and you can also pick rooms with views of the Valley of the Temples.

They have free Wi-Fi plus breakfast, and they do have one or two bedroom apartments on top of the hotel that you can stay in if you want a bit more space.

A really good option for where to stay in Agrigento if you want to be central and sorted from the moment you arrive.

B&B Sogni d'oro

B&B Sogni d'oro. This is a more freestyle accommodation right in the city centre. The town hall is just a 4 minute walk away, and to get to the temples you can walk there in about 20 minutes.

The rooms are art deco in nature and some have balconies. They also have a safe where you can leave your valuables, which is always reassuring.

As it is in the centre you can walk to nearby cafes for breakfast or restaurants, and they do have breakfast at the property as well. They have parking facilities too. Last time I checked the parking was around 5 euros a day, which is pretty inexpensive, so do ask them about that.

La Passeggiata di Girgenti

To the west of the city close to the valley of the Temples is the super modern La Passeggiata di Girgenti. I really love the modernness of this one. All rooms have air con, there is free breakfast, and they also have sound insulation which I think is very important if you do not want to be kept up at night.

Some rooms have balconies overlooking the ocean and the surroundings. Parking is free and they can also offer bike rentals, which is brilliant to have in Agrigento. The property is also smoke free.

It is very close to the Central Station and just a few minutes walk from the museum and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, so you are really well placed for the key sights around the city.

Bed & Breakfast in Agrigento

If you are more into bed and breakfasts, these are great options for those looking for a more authentic experience. You might not have all the amenities, but B&Bs in Agrigento are usually run by small families and they are a genuinely lovely way to experience the place. Where to stay in Agrigento on a budget? Honestly, this is where I would start looking. Here are some of my picks.

B&B Villa del Sole Relais

B&B Villa del Sole Relais. They have a large swimming pool, which is really uncommon for a bed and breakfast. All the rooms have a private entrance, free parking, and also a private bathroom. Air con is also included.

The Valley of the Temples is just a 10 minute drive, or you can actually walk there. When I went to Agrigento and was deciding where to stay, I ended up staying around here and you really can walk everywhere, which makes such a difference.

Le Terrazze di Pirandello

Le Terrazze di Pirandello. This one is right next to the Pirandello Theatre and it has more of a classic, traditional Sicilian style. The breakfast is really nice and they have gluten free options and vegan options, which is great to see.

You can eat breakfast overlooking the Valley of the Temples and the Mediterranean Ocean. That alone makes it worth it. A really nice pick and not far from some of the best restaurants in Agrigento either.

B&B Triskele

B&B Triskéles. I love the rooms in this one. These are 4 star bed and breakfasts, just a kilometre away from the city centre. The rooms have a mini bar, which last time I checked was complimentary. They have a private bathroom, free parking, and air conditioning.

You can also pick rooms with either a terrace or balcony. The breakfast includes local products, cold cuts, and fruits, which is a really nice spread.

The Scala dei Turchi is about 16 kilometres away and the main temple area is about 1.8 kilometres away, so you are in a solid spot for getting around and exploring all the things to do in Agrigento.

Where to stay in Agrigento with family

This is really important to get right. When I am looking at where to stay in Agrigento with kids, I focus on the distance to beaches, what amenities are on site, and how practical the whole setup is. Here are some of the best options.

B&B Eyexei Domus

B&B Eyexei Domus. I picked this one because they have a lot of family rooms and triple rooms. The accommodation has air con, a swimming pool so you can have the kids in the pool, a garden, and disabled access, which is really important for some families.

You can also get access to their laundry facilities, so you do not have to keep paying hotel prices to get things washed. That is great if you are spending a good chunk of time in Sicily. The owners are just next door as well, so if you need any help you can get to them quickly.

The Punta Bianca Suites

The Punta Bianca Suites. This is a few hundred metres from Punta Bianca. It is very modern accommodation and it only has 4 rooms, so it is really boutique. They have an awesome infinity pool, which is just stunning.

The hospitality is what makes it really great for a family stay, and that is run by Daniele last time I checked. They have complimentary breakfast, which is served underneath an olive tree. They also provide dinner at an extra fee, served at their home restaurant with a lot of typical Sicilian dishes.

It is in a quiet area with ocean views, which is exactly why I picked it. If you are comparing this to other options for where to stay elsewhere in Sicily, this one is quite unique.

Villa Lekythos

Close to the city is Villa Lekythos. This is a renovated farmhouse with a garden, a swimming pool, and shared living areas. The rooms are either double or triple, so good for families, and it comes with free parking.

The rooms themselves have views of either the city or the ocean, and some even have jacuzzis, which is a really nice touch.

To get to the Valley of the Temples from here, it is just about 5 kilometres away, so you are well placed for the main sights and for finding some of the best restaurants in Agrigento nearby.

Tips for booking where to stay in Agrigento

  • We look at at least 10 to 20 reviews as well as staying at many of the properties ourselves, and this gives a lot of insight into what things are really like on the ground. So make sure to be reading a lot of reviews before you commit to anything.
  • I would also recommend booking at least 6 months before you go. Agrigento is a popular city, though not as busy as some of the larger ones, so somewhere between 6 to 12 months ahead is a solid rule of thumb. If you are on a budget, look at bed and breakfasts first as they often include breakfast in the price and most of them do. Where to stay in Agrigento FAQ's

What is the best area to stay in Agrigento?

It really depends on what kind of trip you are after. If you want to be near the Valley of the Temples and the historical sites, the city centre is a great base. If you prefer a more relaxed beach holiday, the coastal areas like San Leone are a better fit. Both have solid options across different budgets.

Is Agrigento worth staying in for a few nights?

Absolutely. There is a lot more to the city than just the temples. The mediaeval streets, the food scene, and the surrounding landscapes all make it worth spending at least two or three nights here. If you are doing a broader Sicily trip, pairing it with somewhere like Taormina or Palermo works really well.

What is the ZTL zone and do I need to worry about it?

The ZTL is a restricted traffic zone in the city centre. If you are driving your own car, you need to check with your accommodation about how to handle it. Some hotels and B&Bs can sort a daily permit for you, and last time I checked it was around 5 euros a day, which is pretty manageable. Just do not ignore it or you will end up with a fine.

Where is the cheapest place to stay in Agrigento?

Bed and breakfasts are generally the most budget friendly option, and a lot of them include breakfast in the price. That makes them genuinely good value, especially if you are spending more time exploring during the day. Check out our general money saving tips for Italy too.

How far in advance should I book accommodation in Agrigento?

I would say at least 6 months, and pushing towards 12 months if you are travelling in peak summer. The better properties, especially the smaller boutique ones and beachfront spots, do fill up. It is not as hectic as booking in Taormina or Palermo, but you still want to get in early.
